(Colorado Springs, Colo.) - Nearly 100 athletes competed in the senior elite divisions of the Continental Crown, a USA Judo Senior E-Level Point Tournament, on Saturday in Seattle, Wash. 

Players represented the United States as well as more than a dozen nations, including Georgia, Brazil, Israel, Canada, Russia and Armenia, with 256 athletes competing in all divisions.  

Among the winners of the senior elite divisions were the following players:

  • 2009 Pan Am bronze medalist and World Team member Michael Eldred (Fruitland, Idaho / Western Idaho Judo Institute) won the 73kg division in his last competition before travelling to Samoa later this week for his first World Cup event of the season.
  • Two-time World Team member Marti Malloy (San Jose, Calif. / USA Judo National Training Site at San Jose State University) fought up from 57kg to 63kg where she defeated 2008 Pan Am Team member Anna Palmer (Colorado Springs, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center / Boulder Judo Training Center) in the final.  
  • Leilani Akiyama (Bellevue, Wash. / U.S. Judo Training Center), who won a silver medal at the 2003 U.S. Open in the 52kg division as a 16-year-old, earned the gold medal in the 57kg division.  Akiyama returned to competition after taking time off from the sport to attend college.
  • 2008 Senior Nationals medalist Ross MacBaisey (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. / San Shi Judo Club) defeated Colton Brown (San Jose, Calif. / USA Judo National Training Site at San Jose State University), a 2009 Senior Nationals medalist and Junior World Team member, in the finals of the 81kg division.
  • 2007 Pan Am medalist Alexa Liddie (Colorado Springs, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center / Boulder Judo Training Center) fought up from 44kg to win the 48kg division.
