Beginning on Jan. 1, 2010, the International Judo Federation will require all athletes competing in IJF competitions to wear an IJF designated back patch.

According to a statement released by the IJF, "only the original IJF Back Numbers carrying the IJF / EJU Trade Mark and acquired exclusively according to procedure in Article 1.2 will be accepted at judogi control."

These back patches must be worn at all World Championships, Masters Championships, Grand Slam, Grand Prix and World Cup events.  This event list will later include additional events as specified by the IJF.
