Entry Information Released for the 2009 Grappling World Team Trials, Oct. 23-24 in Phoenix

The entry packet is now available for the 2009 U.S. Grappling World Team Trials which will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Ariz., October 22-24. Competition will be held in both gi and no-gi divisions under the rules of FILA, the international federation of wrestling and will be open to USA Judo members.
The no-gi division will be contested on Oct. 23 and the gi division will be held on Oct. 24.
The winners at the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will represent the United States at the 2009 Grappling World Championships, which will be at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dec. 12-13.
"Once again we join hands with USA Wrestling to afford our athletes and our sport an opportunity to show off their talent and the entertainment value of our sport," said USA Judo CEO Jose H. Rodriguez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) "We hope our athletes and coaches try to take advantage of this opportunity to make a USA World Team as they line up, first opposing USA wrestlers and ultimately join ranks with them to represent our nation at this FILA World Championships."
The U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will be an open tournament for senior-level male and female grapplers born in 1989 or earlier. Male athletes born between 1990-1991 and female athletes born between 1990-1992 may compete with medical consent. There will be no pre-qualification required to enter the competition.
Weight divisions will be contested as follows:
- Men's 60kg, 66kg, 74kg, 84kg, 96kg, 120kg and Open
- Women's 50kg, 55kg, 63kg, 67kg and Open
The competition will be hosted alongside the Sunkist Kids International Open, which is a major international wrestling tournament in the three Olympic wrestling styles. The Sunkist Kids International will be hosted October 23-25.
