(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – With less than two years leading up to the 2012 Olympic Games, more than 300 athletes from 43 nations will travel to Miami this weekend to compete in the USA World Cup at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa on Friday and Saturday.

A qualifier for the 2012 Olympic Games and the final major international event before the Senior World Championships that will be held Sept. 9-13 in Tokyo, this event will draw athletes from nations including Brazil, Korea, Ukraine, Canada, Portugal, France, Australia and Colombia.

"The level of competition at this World Cup will be as good as in any Olympic Games,” said USA Judo CEO Jose H. Rodriguez.  “We are very appreciative for the support that we have received from the City of Doral, Miami Dade County, Miami Dade Sports Commission and the Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau in order to make this Judo World Cup happen in Miami. It is always very easy to have a successful event in Miami because it is an easy sell to the countries and the athletes.”

Among the athletes competing are at least eight World or Olympic medalists and dozens of World Cup, Pan American and European Championship medalists.
