(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Ronda Rousey (Santa Monica, Calif. / NYAC), a bronze medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games, made her return to international competition on Saturday at the Tunisia Grand Prix in Tunis.

Rousey opened the event with a win over Jennifer Pitzanti (ITA) by ippon (instant win) in the 70kg division.

In the second round, Rousey battled back and forth with Paris Grand Slam silver medalist Ye-Sul Hwang (KOR), but the Korean came out on top by two yukos, including one scored from penalties committed by Rousey.

As all Grand Prix and Grand Slam events are now single elimination tournaments, Rousey was eliminated from further competition.

A 2009 Senior World Team member in the 52kg division, Kayla Chappell (Oklahoma City, Okla. / USA Stars) got her first taste of major international competition in the 63kg division when she made her Grand Prix debut on Saturday.

Chappell drew the division’s #2 seed, Anicka van Emden (NED) in the first round where van Emden choked Chappell en route to winning her 11th World Cup medal.

Katelyn Bouyssou (Hope, R.I. / NYAC / Mayo Quanchi Judo Club) competed at the 2010 Senior World Championships, but Friday marked the first World Tour event for the 15-year-old.  Bouyssou drew top seed Eva Csernoviczky (HUN) in the first round and was outgripped by the 12-time World Cup medalist.  Csernoviczky threw Bouyssou for an early waza-ari (half-point) and followed with a sumi gaeshi (sacrifice throw) for a second waza-ari score to win the match.
