USA Judo Youth and Scholastic National Championships Come to Spokane This Weekend

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) - Athletes between ages 6 and 19 will travel from as far away as New York, Alaska and Hawaii to compete this weekend at the USA Judo Youth and Scholastic National Championships in Spokane, Wash. 

The junior point tournament will be held at the HUB Regional Sports Center, 19619 E. Cataldo Ave. in Liberty Lake, a suburb of Spokane. 

Competition will be held from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily with the following divisions being contested:

Saturday, March 13
Bantam 1, 2 and 3 (Athletes Born 2002, 2003 and 2004)
Juvenile A (Athletes Born 1996-1997)
Juvenile B (Athletes Born 1994-1995)

Sunday, March 14
Intermediate 1 (Athletes Born 2000-2001)
Intermediate 2 (Athletes Born 1998-1999)
IJF-Junior (Athletes Born 1991-1995)

Among the athletes to watch this weekend are numerous Junior World Team members as well as young athletes ranked at the senior level, including: 

  • Taylor Ibera (Honolulu, Hawaii / Hawaii Tenri / 44kg), 2008 Senior Pan American Champion and two-time Senior U.S. Open Champion
  • Chrissy Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii / Hawaii Tenri / 57kg), 2008 Junior World Team member at 52kg and 2008 Senior Nationals medalist
  • Mindy Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii / Hawaii Tenri / 57kg), two-time Senior Nationals medalist
  • Helen Delpopolo (Westfield, N.J. / 78kg), two-time Junior World Team member and 2009 Senior Nationals silver medalist at 70kg
  • Katinna Rodriguez (Anchorage, Alaska / 78kg), 2009 Cadet World Team member and 2009 Senior Nationals medalist
  • Andrew Porras (Coral Springs, Fla. / USA Judo National Training Site at South Florida / 73kg), 2009 Junior World Team member and Senior U.S. Open medalist
  • Colin Robinson (Colorado Springs, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center / 100kg), two-time Junior World Team member at +100kg
