Junior World Championships Day 3 Results

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) - Team USA was eliminated in the early rounds of the third day of the Junior World Championships on Saturday in Paris. 

A Senior National medalist in the 81kg division, Colton Brown (San Jose, Calif. / USA Judo National Training Site at San Jose State University) had a first round bye, but was trailing in the second round by yuko (quarter-point) and waza-ari (half-point) scores to Mohamed Aly Abdelall (EGY) when Abdelall pinned him to win the match. 

In the 90kg division, Tony Sangimino (Glenville, N.Y. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center) was thrown for ippon (instant win) with an uchimata (inner thigh throw) by Daiki Nishiyama (JPN) who would go on to win the bronze. 

Jillian Roman (Colorado Springs, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center / Boulder Judo Training Center) was down by yuko and waza-ari (half-point) scores before being thrown for ippon with an o soto gari (outer leg throw) by reigning European Junior Champion Edwige Gwend (ITA). 

Two-time Junior World Team member Helen Delpopolo (Westfield, N.J.) was looking to come back from a three yuko deficit in the 70kg division when she was armbarred with 24 seconds left in the match by eventual silver medalist Lucie Perrot (FRA).
